Strengthening Malaysia’s Running Ecosystem: CheckPointSpot® Group CEO Shares Industry Perspective on RTM

PETALING JAYA — CheckPointSpot® Group CEO Benjamin Yeow recently shared his perspective with RTM Berita Semasa on the continued development of Malaysia’s mass-participation running industry and the potential for selected local events to build stronger international positioning.

Malaysia has developed a vibrant running community supported by an increasingly active calendar of road races, fun runs, trail events and other mass-participation sporting events.

According to Yeow, the industry’s next stage of development should go beyond simply increasing participation numbers.

Building events capable of attracting broader regional and international interest requires a stronger overall ecosystem involving organisers, government agencies, tourism stakeholders, sponsors, technology providers and local communities.

Factors such as event standards, participant experience, safety, operational consistency, technology adoption and long-term commercial sustainability will become increasingly important as the Malaysian mass-participation industry matures.

Yeow also noted that not every event needs to pursue international status. However, selected Malaysian events with strong participation, distinctive destinations and consistent organisation could potentially develop into stronger regional attractions and contribute further to sports tourism.

Through its work supporting mass-participation events in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, CheckPointSpot® continues to see how technology and stronger event infrastructure can contribute to the development of the wider endurance-sports ecosystem.

The RTM Berita Semasa segment forms part of the broader national conversation around the continued growth and professionalisation of Malaysia’s running-event industry.
